A Message from Dean

The Dean of the School - Professor Naoyuki Hara

Our Graduate School of Economics was established on the 1st of April, 1979 with the Economics Major. We are now in the 35th year. We added the Business Management Major in 2000 and the School had a two courses structure for 4 years. In 2004, a separate Graduate School of Management was established and we became a more compact school with a student strength of 10 admitted every year. That is where we stand today.

The Graduate School allows for the students to be enrolled in the regular course (through admission on recommendation/ general entrance examination) or the flexible course (through special entrance examination for working people). Although the entry points to the streams are different, either course allows the students identical opportunities. The students can obtain waiver for some subjects of the Certified Tax Accountant examination under certain decidedly stringent conditions. Also the streams allow the students to use some credits obtained in the graduate school towards getting a legal expertise on the Teacher's License System. It may be noted that since 1997 the rules for the Certified Tax Accountant examination have become more stringent and the students who are interested in it need to be doubly careful.

The flexible course is designed for people interested in lifelong learning. The demand for this is going to increase hereafter. Young and elderly people who have a thirst for knowledge can exchange ideas and give each other considerable stimulus and achieve their aims.

Currently we are aiming for a Ph. D. program and restructuring the curriculum of the School to be even more appropriate for the precise requirements of our students after graduating. The people with a strong will towards studies are much welcome.
